Boulder Hiking Trail Advisory: New pet restrictions are going into effect

The Daily Camera is reporting that the city of Boulder is beginning an “educational period” to help pet owner’s understand the new regulations on the City of Boulder’s Trail System. Boulder has a “trailhead leash program,” which calls for pets to be on-leash at trailhead areas until they pass a marker where voice and sight control is acceptable. These signs are well marked and are not located very far from car parking lots.

The educational period will end August 4th, after which pet owners who do not comply will recieve $50 tickets. Regardless of your opinions on these regulations, they are the law, and we hope that all trial users who wish to bring their pets abide by the rules for the safety and concern for all people who wish to enjoy the trails around Boulder.

There are a few trails which are not under the educational period, because the policy has been enforced since 2005. Those trailheads are Marshall Mesa, Doudy Draw, Chautauqua Park, Dry Creek and Mount Sanitas.
